About the job
What garage door installation involves
Garage door installation is more than hanging panels. The job starts with measuring the opening: width, height, headroom over the door, and the space to each side. Those numbers decide which door, track and spring will fit.
On the day, we remove the old door, check the framing and jambs for rot or damage, and assemble the new panels section by section. The track and torsion spring system is mounted, the springs are wound to match the weight of the new door, and the cables, rollers and weatherstripping are set. We then connect the opener, if you have one, and reset its travel limits for the new door, because a heavier or lighter door changes how the opener behaves.
People usually replace a door because panels are dented or cracked, the track is bent, the door is hard to balance, or the garage is cold. Minnesota winters make insulation worth a look, particularly for an attached garage that shares a wall with living space. Insulated steel doors have a polystyrene or polyurethane core between steel skins, and we explain how they differ before you choose.
A full installation is typically a one-day job for a standard single or double door, and we haul away the old door when we finish.

Your options
Options we walk you through before installation
Steel doors
The most common residential choice. Steel panels hold up well, take paint, and come in flat and raised-panel styles.
Insulated or non-insulated
A core of foam between two steel skins helps with temperature and noise, which matters for a garage attached to the house. A single-layer door is lighter and costs less.
Door size and opening
A standard single door and a double door use different springs and track. Odd-size openings in older homes may need a custom size, which we measure for.
Springs and hardware
Heavier doors need stronger springs. We match torsion springs to the door's weight, and use rollers and hinges rated for the job.
Windows and style
Glass panels, color and panel patterns are chosen to suit the house. We show you what is available and what suits the door's insulation.
Opener compatibility
The opener has to lift the new door's weight and be reset to it. If yours is old, we raise the question of a new garage door opener at the quote.
